GIS Research and Map Collection Memorial Day Hours
The GIS Research and Map Collection (GRMC) will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 28. The GRMC will reopen on Tuesday, May 29 at 7:30 A.M.
Bracken Library will be open from noon to 3:00 A.M. on Monday, May 28.

Diplomacy, Art, Weather, and Horseracing: Maps in the News Available from Ball State University Libraries
The Ball State University Libraries' GIS Research and Map Collection (GRMC) and the Atlas Collection on the second floor of Bracken Library provide excellent cartographic resources for research and learning about places in the news. Maps from atlases can be easily scanned for papers and presentations and depict a variety of topics and places in the news:
The above map of Afghanistan (click to enlarge) details the areas of influence of the Taliban in the country as of 2001 and is from the Historical Atlas of Afghanistan in the Atlas Collection.
This map of Beijing province and the city of Beijing is from China: A Provincial Atlas from the Atlas Collection in Bracken Library.
This map shows the percentage of cell phone subscribers in China. The map is from the State of China Atlas, which features maps about the culture of the country and was published in 2005.
Edvard Munch's painting The Scream broke the record for an art auction. Munch is listed as #32 in Norway on the map of expressionism from the Atlas of Western Art History.
This map of the incidences of tornadoes in the United States is from the World Atlas of Natural Hazards.
The Kentucky Derby is this weekend, but the Breeders Cup Classic has the largest purse of any race in the United States according to this map from the Atlas of Sports available from the Atlas Collection in Bracken Library.
