Celebrating Native American
Heritage with Maps
The Ball State University
Libraries’ GIS Research and Map Collection (GRMC) will be presenting a class
for the community to commemorate Native American Heritage Month. The class will be held at the Cornerstone
Center for the Arts in the second-floor Founders Room on Tuesday, November 11
from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The presentation, Native American Heritage Month: A Celebration in Maps, will feature maps
detailing the history of Native Americans near Muncie, around present-day
Indiana, and the United States. The maps
cover topics like the shrinking range of the buffalo, Lenape villages on the
White River, and Native American resistance and feature prominent Native Americans
like Tecumseh, Sitting Bull, and Sarah Winnemucca.
The Cornerstone Center for
the Arts is located at 520 East Main Street in downtown Muncie. The class is free and open to the public, and
free parking is available.
